What is the name of your state?I live in Nebraska!

I'm the husband. My question is an unusual one but one I need an answer to before I proceed with my divorce filing. We are separated now and have been for over 2 years. We have 4 children: 2 girls, 2 boys, ages 4 thru 11. I want to file for FULL physical custody. I know my chances are slim except for one ace up my sleeve. I believe my wife is mentally ill. Not "Crazy" so you could tell but, you can tell by her actions, words, decisions and lifestyle. A couple times she was so disdraught, about something, she was incoherent.

My question is: When we go to court can I ask the Judge to make her take a written test, like an MMPI, to determine the extent of her illness, what it is and whether or not she has an illness? I can tell many stories but it would be my word against hers. And she's a great liar and deceiver! I'm wondering if I can get proof from unbiased professionals.

Thanks for any help.

George

Hopefully rmet will give you more detailed answers as she is the one with experience in this.

I will say that you will also be required to take the test as well and any illness and personality traits will also come to the courts attention. You may also be ordered to pay the full cost since you are the petitioning party here. These tests can be quite spendy.

Spendy?? LMAO. Well, maybe I shouldn't be. Perhaps, there is a new dictionary out there with new words.

OP - You've had 4 children over an 11 year period with this woman and NOW you believe she has a mental illness? Before you ask for this in court, I would suggest you provide some PROOF (not just your word) about her recent actions that would suggest there may be a problem.

Request an evaluation by a forensic psychologist. These tests are routine. Be aware, you aslo will be tested.

4 children barely 2 years apart between the ages of 4 and 11 and mom is sometimes incoherent? How much parenting have you contributed to this family? Update us when you are done with this.

Believe it or not that's actually a very common piece of slang in many parts of the country.

Is that like some regions preferring to use either "pop" or "soda"? :) ;)

It may be a time when even you would agree that 50/50 custody would be appropriate ;) even a blessing!
Yeah, I believe that in this case it might very well be a blessing for mom! :D

LMAO this was my initial thought!

Does 'incoherent' define when I talk to my children through the wall &/or upstairs..."Do NOT make me go in there...." :D

You're assuming that I am JUST NOW saying she's possibly mentally ill. We've been married for 12 years and I knew something was wrong the first of those 12. I have tried to get her to get help for 12 years. She's refused everytime the subject was brought up. You're also not considering the fact that people change alot in 12 years. It's just been recently that her problem has began to affect the children. That's why I AM FILING for divorce! She was married before and her first husband divorced her also. I don't wonder why so much now!
