what was the monthly child support amount you were ordered to pay? and have you ever either prior to or after the marriage petitioned the court for a downward modification or to have child support stopped?

When the order went in, the only job that Jessica knew about was at a plant where there was a union and I made quite a bit more than I did prior, so originally the order was for $250 a week, she knew I was working in Tx, but didn't know the name of the place or how much I was making. So for two years the order charged at that rate, plus birthing costs, plus intrest. I wasn't made aware of the support order until they picked me up and took me to jail, but once we were made aware of the orders standing, (before we were married) yes I did have it reduced, and yes we did try to get the order stopped which I was then told to do that I would have to be on her grant, and the hoop jumping insued

I, for one, don't believe a single word of your STORY. There is no way in the WORLD that your gf/wife/bedbuddy wouldn't have told you about the order. There is no way that said individual didn't know where you were working, and there's no way that YOU didn't know about the order.

Please give us all a break and take your story elsewhere.

To OP:

I'm sorry to hear about the loan. You're only issue now is:

"Once I made it known to the court that we were living together and I was trying to support my children then in the intrest of the family (because that's what their supposed to be for) they should have suspended the case until I was able to get a home for my family and get on the grant (In a timely fashion of course)."

You have one major problem. Yes, they "should've" but they didn't. Why? Nothing you have said to validate your claim is in writing. I'm quite sure everything you have done to get yourself out of this situation was verbal. So now it doesn't matter what transpired in those two years. An application was signed and submitted and aid was given and received. Done deal. You owe the State $ for all years you have received aid, regardless if you needed it or not. You got it.

From here on out, put everything you say in writing and get everything said to you in writing when it effects you financially and legally.

Good luck.

Ok, enough is enough for this thread.

You do not pay 25% quarterly...
Yes I do in fact pay 25% intrest quarterly, although it used to be 16% quarterly until just recently. I did the same search you did typing "intrest on child support in mich" in the search bar and after searching a few pages could not come up with a difinitive answer other then in 1995 there was no intrest rate only a surcharge of 9% charged per year in 1995. So please be aware it's no longer 1995 and let me know what you put in the search bar so I can tell the court officials that what their doing is wrong************** Oh yeah, I've done that already.

IF 25% were added quarterly your amount would be going up by 2500 (and increasingly higher amounts) every three months...it's 25% annually and interest is applied quarterly

he's full of crap. The Michigan state interest rate on child support arrearage is the 5 year treasury note rate + 1%. That is why it hasn't "changed" since 1994. It doesn't need to.

I can assure you that the treasury note rate is NOT 24%.

Why don't you do a little reading pal, I was told about the order, I called friend of court when I got back in Mich and was told that no such order existed, as I stated in my previous post, and it hadn't been filed at that time. She did know where I was working just not how much I was making, the address, phone number etc. all the info the friend of court wants when charging child support but she did know all the info from when I was working here and what she didn't know could be easily filled in by looking in a phone book. I personally could care less that you believe me but the fact that you think that I could just come here make all this up speaks for your faith in your fellow man.

As I've stated before it has done nothing but go up every three months.

Well, on the off chance that this guy is for real :)rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:)

Check out http://www.michigan.gov/dhs/0,1607,7-124-5453_5528-107443--,00.html#pay-plan

You may have options for a payment plan and, possibly, discharge of the amount you are in arrears.

that's because at this point, you probably aren't even covering the interest.

That's what happens when you let people trick you into taking their money.

Stupid government.
