I am not sure on that one. Unresolved strep can lead to complications later in life. If I remember correctly it can cause a pretty serious kidney disorder. (again, though my memory is fuzzy on what later complications it causes, I just know that it causes later complications if not resolved).

I personally knew 2 girls when I was growing up who DIED of complications from untreated strep.

And if he doesn't take antibiotics, he's probably not giving her medication when she's with him - meaning she can end up with antibiotic resistant strep.

had my tonsils removed at 13 because of repeated strep infections. Got strep when I was 26 that was so persistent, wouldnt go away. It eventully attacked my joints and caused severe arthritis.

Strep is no joke.

However, someone can get scarlet fever WITHOUT getting strep throat. I know. Have had it happen. Scared the crap out of me but everyone came out of it okay because mama bear stepped up. In this case mama bear should put it on OFW but she may also want to go back to court regarding the lack of treatment by dad.

I think, at this point, I would put in OFW that the child is being treated for severe and persistent strep infections, and will not be available for visitations until the infection is considered by her pediatrician to be successfully treated and the child is out of danger.

I don't think there's really anything Mom can do about Dad deciding for himself not to be treated, but I'd for sure be willing to take the risk that Dad will file for contempt due to the refusals.

Thanks, guys. I'm frustrated and I know I can't do anything about him treating himself. There's a bunch of other stuff going on with him, as well, so I know a blow up is coming, but I just don't want to keep re-exposing her to this.

This is what I would do if I were in your position. I would file an emergency motion. To that motion I would attach a copy of your daughter's complete medical records regarding the strep and a letter from the doctor certifying the medical records. Then I would also attach an explanation that dad has strep and is refusing to get himself treated for it and that he has re-infected the child. I would also attach some articles from reputable sources explaining the dangers of unresolved strep infections. I would then ask for visits to be suspended until dad resolves his strep.

Its overkill, but it would at least demonstrate to the judge that you have done your homework on the issue and that its not frivolous.

Small Vent of Frustration

Kiddo’s Father’s Day party was yesterday. She had wanted her grandfather to come, but I had no idea what time it was because, since I got it after she went to her Dad’s the last time, the paper sat around and got lost, so her grandpa didn’t go, either and she was a bit upset over it, but she was fine in less than 5 minutes when we explained what happened.

I sent everything over that she had made for it to give to her Dad. When he returned the keys, he started going on about how upset kiddo was that he didn’t come to the event. I apologized and told him that I had gotten the paper after she had gone and I wasn’t sure, with his extremely sporadic activity on OFW, if he’d even log in. He went on to say that, apparently, including the two or more month period where he didn’t log in, that he had tons of witnesses and that, probably because I paid for the program, instead of him, he was having trouble logging in and couldn’t log in. He said it’s not really a need to have OFW, since things on FB can’t be erased and I just reminded him that that wasn’t the reasoning why we didn’t use Facebook anymore.

He then went on to the Parent/Teacher conference thing, saying that some lawyer friend of his told him that, according to the papers, he has no right to contact her school. I tried to explain to him that he has every right to her medical and educational files and that nowhere in there does it say he is not allowed to contact her school, including for conferences. He, again, told me I was wrong.

Then he went on a random stint that he’s finally getting custody of her sister, due to her living conditions, so I re-directed him back to Cameron and very shortly thereafter, I ended it by saying I should let him go so he can get back to kiddo and her sister.

Anyway, that’s what’s going on. If he doesn’t harp on it and just enjoys the day and Father’s Day with her, she will be fine. Nothing was intentional. If it were, I wouldn’t have sent all the stuff with her from it. And it’s looking like if he had ended up getting the paper, somehow, then he would have used the excuse that the court documents forbid him from going.

I’ll fix it by mailing them to him, next time. My screw up, but again, completely unintentional.

Yes, he certainly can...assuming that they are willing to meet with him. Hasn't he made some messes at the doctor's office?...or am I confusing him with someone else?

He's never been to her doctor's office, but he's made a scene at the hospital when she was born, the first and last group home daycare she attended her first day there and still publicly harassed the woman months later, harassed the children's early intervention assessors, my lawyer, etc. So quite a few people and places have had issues with him, concerning kiddo and not concerning kiddo, so though that part wasn't it, there have been many other instances close to what you say anyway.

I feel crappy that I screwed up on not getting the information to him. On the same turn, I'm also frustrated and tired of hand-hold-guiding someone who's almost 50 years old. And I feel crappy for feeling that way. But thank you for letting me know, from your point of view, that I'm not misinterpreting the court document, myself.
