I did everything I knew

Did you try unplugging your computer?

Not an option.

I was not going to let someone "kick" me offline & why should I? That would be like if I told you, you have to move out of your house cause I wanted you too or that you had no right to use your phone. You would have every right to look me right back in the eye and tell me to F**k off.

I was not going to let someone try to tell me to get offline or run me off my computer. Anytime this low life had access to my computer, I either spent time trying to fix my computer & learn how this was done or I deleted everything (formatted my pc) and started over. But stop using my pc was not an option, as I have every right to use it as anyone else has the right to use their own pc.

Update: 03-05-2005

As of yet, I have not heard back from the local or federal authorities. So today I took it upon myself for call & leave a message. I still need a copy of the reports made, the report I made, and I want to know how close they maybe to finding the creep who took my ID.

Though I do have some more bad news. I've been using Google to find out if there are any other sites, that this jerk used to scam people and I've come up with a total of three thus far. Finding them, has been as simple as search for my e-mail address & old address. Through my searching, I have found that there is now a whole dedicated web site about "me" scamming people (which I have not done, but the person using my ID has). :(

I've been trying to move on with my life, but I can't seem to stop thinking about how this freak maybe still using my ID or may do so again, anytime he/she feels the need. Should he/she wake up one morning and think to themselves that they'd like to have a new home, car, ps2, cloths, or what ever he/she wants... All this freak has to do is look in the mirror and say to them self; "I feel like being -My Name- today!" :(

I've spent this whole time, trying to think of away to stop or prevent this freak, from being me or doing other things in my name. The truth I've come upon is I can't. The problem with ID theft, is he/she is another me (at least on paper). The only cure I can think of now, is to some how get myself a new ID. If that's even possible. I don't want this freak to try to be me & continue too hurt people, using my name ever again.

Thanks for the update! I continue to be in awe of your situation and think I will add three or more firewalls to my pc now!

Only use one. Adding more firewalls, seems to cancel out each other. I'd also recommend a router (Linksys seems to hold better). Avoid wireless if at all possible though (just my opinion).

What I'm learning about ID theft, is there are so many ways people can get it. Someone could brake into your mail box, go through your trash, read over your employee file at your job, get some of it through public record (not sure how), ask people you know or maybe even you the most simple question (such as your birthday, phone number, last names), or in my case get it online some how.

I was reading a report on MSN about ID theft and out of 700 people who will fall victim. Only 1 person will be linked as the ID thief. Even after he/she is pointed out as the thief, there still is a 50/50 chance that he/she will never go to court or will be let off. Mean while, that still leaves 699 unsolved cases and 699 peopel to continue to use or take people's ID's. Now out of all the 700 victims, all 700 will be left to pick up the mess that someone else did in their name (including the victim who caught the thief). I don't like those odds at all. :( :(

UPDATE: It's personal ?

*long deep, depressing sigh*

It's personal or so I now believe. A little while ago, I got an Ant Farm in the mail from a site called ThinkGeek.com (http://www.thinkgeek.com/cubegoodies/toys/6fd6/ ) . It came in around the holidays and I thought maybe I had ordered it and forgot or that someone sent it to me as a gift. Shortly after, I even got some ants from Life Studies ( http://www.infowest.com/life/ants.htm ). For some time now, I keep getting more ants & now it is clear to me, that I have not ordered these and I asked everyone I know if someone had got me this as a gift. The reply back from everyone is they know nothing about it. However, the ants keep coming (I have way more then The Ant Farm can hold & as a result, they are dying).

To me this is clear, that it has to be the freak who is using my ID. But why send me ants? Currently I could not buy this even if I wanted to, as I froze my account long ago and am still looking for a new job (I have no money & I don't have a bank or credit card).

Anyways, I step out my back door today, as I was going to take out the trash (early this morning). Upon going out my back door, I notice a few boxes, but pay little mind to it. I thought it was my landlords, as he has been working on the apartment next door. However, upon close examination I notice a shipping liable and all three boxes have my name & current address on them. It would seem that someone left a computer case, dvd-rw, and a cpu on my back door. They look new and unused, but I know for a fact I did not order these.

I guess my next action should be to call up the detective on my case tonight (he's in after 5pm) and to also try to return these. But this now leads me to believe this could be personal. And I'm both shocked, speechless, and greatly disgusted that it could be someone I know or at one time, knew. :(

I live with dumb people (03-07-2005)

So my cell phone rings and seeing my sister was using the phone, she answers it. There is man on the other end, who is asking for my mother (not even her phone). My sister informs him that she's not there & he continues to ask who she was. She answers this is her daughter ~her name~. The man suddenly replies back, that would like to speak with her as well.

He then ask if she really ~her full name~ and does she really live at ~her address~. She confirms this & wants to know who this is. He tells her that his name is "Thomas Chales" and that our family was picked to receive info on Government grants & that he will be mailing 800.00 worth of stuff to our house and it should be there tomorrow.

In the mean time, I'm in the bathroom and hear bits of what my sister is saying and shes laughing & having a good old chat with the man on the other end. I'm trying my best to finish what I'm doing & I'm screaming to her, that it could be just a telemarketer and she should hang up. Then I also start to think, it could be more ID Theft. So now I'm just about ready to run out with my pants down, when I hear her say "No, I don't have a bank account!" I'm tell her to hang up, but for the life of me... My sister is to interested into what this man may have to offer.

Upon telling him that she doesn't have an account, to pay the processing fee... The man says he'll call back to speak to my mother (still the wrong phone) and that my sister should call another number. She writes down all the info and is about ready to call up the other number herself.  I tell her that it could have been someone trying to collect info or it could have been a telemarketer, but she said he told her, that he wasn't!! WTF?!?!  Do you think he really is going to tell you the truth!?!?

I did a search on Google and it turns out to be a scam & there are many reports about it online.

http://www.google.com/search?q=1-800-530-4282
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=1-800-542-428

You'd think with my family knowing what is going on with me, she would have hung up and not even confirmed anything or said a single word. :(

Poor Sis, she's just a bit too trusting isn't she? sigh

As for the ants............FREE THEM!!! FREE THE ANTS! They have a right to be free and live the life that was intended for them. They do not belong on the type of farm you are running. They need vegetation, crumbs of food, sticky stuff, and water! Turn them all loose so that they may engage in their rightful pursuit of happiness.

Sorry I can't help with your other problems. The cops ought to be able to advise you and other than that you might try finding an online forum for victims of identity theft.

*laughs* I needed a goods laugh, after all this. Thanks. I think all the snow & sub-degree temps would kill off all the ants. :p

As for my sister, I really do not want to comment on that further. I'm disappointed in her action & I always thought she would know better. I have looked for a forum (such as this), that would better help me in finding some advice and sadly though, there really is no place for ID Theft Victims to seek it. :(

I guess what I'm really looking for, is away to avoid being taken to court or going to jail, for something I did not do. The best way I could ever do that, would be to prove that this indeed was someone else. Though that seems to be more easy to say, then do. :(

Update: I have just got a letter from 2 of the credit agencies, that inform me they can not put a credit alert on my file, until I confirm that I am me. It seems they have a different address or other details, then what I provided (letter asked me to send proof of address, W-2's, ect..).

So it would seem it will take longer to place these on alert.

Sorry, I didn't look at your home state. I was thinking you were one of the many California residents who post here.

The ant "breeders" don't usually mail their "livestock" to Northern states during the winter months. How did you manage to get the shipment without the bugs freezing?

One shipment came in via UPS (was on my back door) & the rest have just been coming in through the mail (snail mail). I wish they would stop coming in, because I didn't order these and I'm sure the freak who has my ID is. Problem is though, I'm sure that just points things more in my direction. :(

Update: No one is returning my phone calls. I wanted a copy of the police report and to know the case number, so I can add a full credit alert to my file. I also wanted this info, so I could better address anyone else I may have to contact about this matter.

Thus far, I seem to be getting the cold shoulder from the authorities & this has me worried. The only thing I have got from any authorities would be the yearly census from our city, confirming who lives in the apartment (which has nothing to do with this)..... Got some more ants in the mail also. :(

Called the local police today, to update them on what has been going on. Such as the stuff I seem to be getting in the mail (mostly ants). But also to finally get a copy of the report and so I can know the case number.

Detective J. McG (initials only) was not in today and his partner seems to have stepped out. So I left a message for them to call me back as soon as possible. I was also told he should be back in sometime after 5:00pm tomorrow. If anything, I'll just call him again tomorrow.

I'm hoping they are closer to finding this freak. But I'm also worried that the current evidence that I have been collecting, only points to me thus far. The problem here is the person used my name, address, phone number, SSN, bank account, my pc remotely, and may even had access to my e-mail. The big problem I'm learning about ID Theft, is it's hard to separate the real person & the person doing all this. But then again, I only see part of it & I hope to god, that there is something this freak over looked and messed up some where. So I admit, I'm still scared of what will happen from all this. :(

On another note, I've gotten a few letters from some cell phone companies saying I was denied for a new cell. Which is both alarming, as I never did apply for new service or try to switch providers. I'm happy with my current service and never had any plans on leaving.

But it did get me thinking... Why did this freak who has my ID not just try too get credit cards or cell phone or loans in my name? When reading about ID Theft, that seems to be what most people do when they have your ID. The only answer I can come up with, is I already had bad credit. I had to put a deposit on the cell I have now. This leads me to believe that either this freak thought it easier to run scams and open accounts in my name or that this is indeed a personal attack and someone out there hates me in a way, I don't even want to think of. :(

Maybe you should check out this forum. See if anyone else there has been getting ants!

http://scamvictimsunited.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=14&

BTW, this message is on the site of every ant supplier I could find:

"Enjoy ant farms ANY time of year, even WINTERTIME! If temperatures drop below freezing during the day in your state, ants will ship as soon as it's above freezing."

I don't understand how you could be getting shippments of ants in Massachusetts right now.

Well, of course you can only answer posts about ant farms.

Still waiting for that legal authority to back up your insane comments on your other thread.

(Not holding my breath though)
