Also, I have many documented times where I actually have contacted Dad asking to speak to the child or where the child is with no response.

This is why I am concerned...

I don't get it. Are you that concerned that something might happen during the times she is driving him to daycare? How would having her phone number make her driving your kid to daycare any safer?

I just feel its my right to be able to contact our child at any point.

That is a right of the Father's as well. There should be no time frame or time limit that is off the radar. It makes for an uneasy feeling for this Mommy.

The child is never anywhere that the Father can not call.

To me this is like telling the Father..."Ok the child is going to the grandparent for 6 weeks. Here is one phone number for you to contact him. You are not allowed to have the Grandmother's cell phone. She and the child will be on the road everyday together for over an hour."

Why does it seem to have such restrictions? That is just my concern.

I am going to talk to an attorney tomorrow though. Thanks for all of your insight!

Not necessarily. She may well be saying, "Fine then, since you don't believe us, go to court and find out that way".

I don't see the need for you to have the step-mother's cell phone number. This sounds more like a control issue to me.

forget whatever it may "seem"...

Let me just make sure I am understanding the advice I am getting here, just to be clear on what to expect tomorrow...

In the court of law according to child visitation - there is no obligation for another parent to give contact information when someone is caring for a 5 year old. Someone could just have the child and the other parent has no right to know the whereabouts or be able to make contact?

I am confused.

I don't think anyone is telling you that you shouldn't have contact information for your child. I think, at least, that its simply way over the top for you to insist that you must have contact information for the drive to and back from daycare. Its certainly safer for your child if stepmom is not attempting to answer her phone while driving. In fact, in some states its illegal to be on a cell phone when you are driving.

Lighten up mom.

Please do not be rude.

It is not to call my child while they are driving. It is for security reasons. Do you think that just because I will have the daycares phone number, that means I will call while the child is in the middle of class or nap? No, it is simply for security reasons.

No one has been able to tell me why the restriction might be? That is why I feel I should bring this before a judge.

Let's turn the situation around.

Say I am taking night classes 5 nights a week and the child is cared for by a babysitter for an hour each night. 5pm-6pm

I refuse to give the Father the contact information of the babysitter.

This is how I see it. Please tell me how it is different.

What security reasons?

If something happens at school, you will be contacted.

If something happens when kiddo is with Dad, you will be contacted.

Sooooo...

Soooo...I have no rights to have communication with my child when he is off with the step-mom.

I get it. Thank you.
