Always the voice of reason :)

Well, I would not mind if condoms were available at the nurse, then she can see who is coming to get them, and discourage them from using them, and lecture on the practice "safest love" -no love at all.

But your right, I would have a FIT if the school started to give more time to creation then evolution. But thats only because creation is a religion, a religious explanation, and evolution answers questions without involving any religion at all, a perfectly plausible, and a kind of obvious explanation. .

Even tho, I have been thinking about it, and "God creating the world from nothing" in a short 7 days , does seem to kinda tie into "the big bang theory" although the time frame is WAAYYYY off. (only 5 thousand years ago?)

If schools don't provide condoms, they should at least provide the address and phone number for the closest Planned Parenthood where they can get free condoms and advice about sexual health and birth control...without even having to speak up in front of their classmates.

OP, I have no problem with the school passing out condoms, however, you need to make sure the school is giving appropriate instructions with them.

The federal gov't approved purchasing Chinese condoms with a failure rate of about 22%. The school passing these out, without informing the kids that 1 in 5 of them, or after 5 acts of sexual relations, they will statistically be mommies n daddies.

More likely that kind of information would lead them to not bother with a condom at all. 22% is approximately the same pregnancy rate as UNPROTECTED sex.

I really don't see how parents' rights are being trampled. No one is denying any parent from teaching their children what they believe is proper. If a parent is absolutely opposed to what is taught in Health/Sex Ed, I believe that they can opt their child in most (if not all) states. (I am specifically keeping it to the topic of Health/Sex Ed, since that's that OP is on about.)

Again, however, any parent who thinks that their 11yo child is unaware of sex is... deluding him/herself. Heck - we were talking about it back in the Dark Ages when I was in summer camp - and I was younger than 11.

I am more concerned about kids who have no one to turn to. No parent who is willing to explain, discuss, educate. They learn what they learn from peers - and we all know how reliable that line of information can be! We're not just talking about kids in impoverished areas, either. We're talking about kids from relatively affluent families - with parents who think that if they don't talk about it, it won't happen. And that's... just not realistic.

To provide an example... my daughter's group of close friends numbers five. All are 16/17. Of those five, two are sexually active w/long-term b/fs who pulled the "if you really loved me" card. Two have come pretty close, and I don't think it would take a huge push. That leaves my girl. Not great percentages. These are not bad girls. They all go to a highly competitive academic HS, are involved in extracurriculars, have bright futures. I know them all, have them here at my home, talk to them about all sorts of stuff (yes, including sex). What they all have in common (except mine)? Their parents won't talk to them about sex, their feelings, etc. It's a tough age, in a tough world. Stuff they know I talk to my girl about. Sometimes they come to me; sometimes they ask my daughter what I tell her. The two are at least thinking about their choices and the consequences thereof. A lot of kids have NO ONE to talk to. If they are at least provided information, they may have a second thought, or may consider talking to that teacher.

IS abstinence the best choice for a teen? *I* think so. For a lot of reasons, all of which I've shared with my kids. But, at the end of the day, if one of them came to me and told me that they were ready to take that step? After further conversation? I would make sure they were protected in as many ways possible.

Let us review the title of the thread:

why people have turned this aiding and abetting a crime by the school into a discussion on sex education in health class is interesting.

It just seems hypocritical to me that because sexual education is considered a good thing, it can be mandatory. Teaching the philosophy of Jesus Christ would be a good thing, too, but make that mandatory and you'll really have trouble.

Religious doctrine varies. Sex is "done" the same ALL AROUND THE WORLD. ;)

IMHO: Gods "day" maynot be 24 hours.;)

A day of God's "might" be 2,000,000,000,000 of our days....'Cause He is...Well...GOD.:)

As I mentioned in my very first post on this thread - no one is giving the 11yo's condoms at this point in time. Ratcheting down the drama wouldn't be a bad idea.

If condoms were made available then the four year old in Cincinnati would not have given birth a few weeks ago.

No it is not. There are various types of sex. Though usually it does involve penis into vagina or penis into other body part.

Personally, I think children should be taught that masturbation is safe and not be made to think it is a horrible thing.
