shellandty ~ The OP did say that the charges were dropped and thus I would hope that the housing authority would take that into consideration, but I know they won't. There should have been some warning system in place such as 3 strikes and you're out. It just seems so final for one thing to ruin a life. We all make mistakes and they could have worked with her, or given her one more opportunity. Have you never been wrongly accused and then been given the benefit of the doubt? Sometimes compassion is needed.

You are allowed money for entertainment purposes. What you do with that money is your business. Each county housing office figures out what the guidlines are regarding income and the amount each person pays. If you have a beef with people being allowed some spending money at the end of each paycheck then take it up with them. Obviously you have NEVER needed any form of assistance from anyone. Perhaps you have never been in a situation like these, but if you ever are won't you be glad to know that there is help for you? And please don't make the mistake of saying that it could never happen to you... it usually does when you least expect it.

Understandable!!!! No, I have never been falsely accused of anything. Maybe this was the first offence, but when Yulunda stated she was arrested, the police must have had some ligitimate reason to do so, and when things are tough and you are already walking a thin line, you better do your absolute best to keep things in line.

I use to think like that, "the police must have had some ligitimate reason.." but now I know better.

Here is another note for you: Not to brag, but I live in an upper class neighborhood with no domestic problems of my own, but I had a neighbor who's husband up and left her with nothing. One of her children had a mental handicap to add to her problems. She had no money. I took her in, helped her financially until I could help no more. The first thing we had to do was decrease her expenses as she ended up on welfare with food stamps. As we figured things out together....internet service was one of the first things to go. Go to the library where you can access it for free.

I agree ~ she should have known better, but sometimes in the heat of the moment common sense unfortunately does not rule.

By the way ~ I had to have access for my job because I would work from home on the weekends. However, it is not your "right" to govern where people spend their money. If the housing authority who saw all of the bills AND all of the income has no problem with the internet service then why should you? Besides all of that .... who ever said that Yulanda was not at the Library using the internet? Now do you see where your opinions could have really slammed her ~ if your opinions were based on falicy? It is just not right to jump all over someone with out first knowing the whole situation.

How do you know she didn't post her question from the library? I had internet service for free for over 3 years. Never paid a dime for it.....

I don't know that, and maybe you're correct. How did you manage to get internet for free for three years. Just curious!!

I'm in Georgia and a friend of mine who lives in Florida told me I was welcome to use her AOL account because she was paying monthly and used it rarely and didn't want to feel as though she was wasting money. Told me to use it when ever I wanted. AOL gives you like 7 diffferent email accounts... I still have access to it but I wanted DSL and her service was dial up.

Want vs. Need What is wrong with this country??
well I wanted my computer to stop freezing up on me so a coworker told me getting DSL will stop that from happening. Someone better warn Yulunda not to read past the 3rd post...She might get offended and be disappointed..

There is no problem with your internet service.....It's a problem with your computer.

shellandty ~ Why are you so upset about people needing help from time to time? Do you not get it that those programs are put in place to help US citizens? I am sure that you have things in your life that you think you need, but are really a want. Like the "upper middle class" house you have. Did you NEED to pay all of that money for it or was it a want. Could you have settled for a not so nice looking house and had more money in your pocket? Probably. You just should not be so quick to judge. I am now doing very well in life thanks to my education and my husbands job, but I am still sympathetic to others in tough situations. That's what you learn from tough times. Perhaps you need to learn some of that. That is what is wrong with this country. Too many people not caring about the working poor. You should be thankful that you are not being judged as harshly as you are judging people who need assistance.
